I recently returned from the Congrès Quebecois du Club Les Petits Villages where Bill Shadid, Department 56 Director of Marketing Villages, shed light on their new cordless lighting solutions for 2006.

The new cordless lighting solutions include Display Anywhere Lighting (available in select new lighted buildings), the Display Anywhere Lighting Retrofit Unit, the Display Anywhere Lighting Remote Control, and the Buildings & Accessories Lighting System.

Display Anywhere Lighting is the result of improvements made on last year's Long Life Cordless Lighting.

In a nutshell, Display Anywhere Lighting shines 25% brighter and has a greater light dispersion (to light up more of the building) than Long Life Cordless Lighting.

Using 4 AA batteries, the Display Anywhere Lighting unit provides over 150 hours of light and includes a timer that will automatically shut off the light after 9 hours. Buildings with the new Display Anywhere Lighting can also be lighted using a traditional Department 56 light cord. The adaptor collar is included, the light cord is not included.

The Display Anywhere Lighting Retrofit Unit makes it possible for any older building that uses a traditional light bulb to become cordless. Simply insert the Display Anywhere Lighting Retrofit Unit into the hole that holds the traditional light cord. The retrofit unit provides over 75 hours of light using 4 AAA batteries.

The new Display Anywhere Lighting Remote Control can be used to turn Display Anywhere Lighting on and off. Now lighting up your Village is as easy as pressing a button! A receiver is required in each building that the remote will control.

The new Building & Accessories Lighting System solves the problem of keeping multiple electrical cords in order. It is a specially designed unit that can light up to 9 buildings and 3 accessories with just one plug going into the electrical outlet. The system uses a 3-volt bulb for buildings and thinner cords, which are easier to disguise within displays.

With the introduction of these new cordless technologies, Department 56 is making it easier than ever to display your lighted Village buildings in nontraditional places: as a dining table centerpiece, as a night light, on a mantel, on a coffee table, in a holiday wreath, atop a piano, or anywhere that you can imagine!
